CROATIA
CROATIA has been on our list for the long time. In the sunny September of 2021 with our friends we have decided to hit the road to Croatian Coast. Excitement buzzed in the air as we have planned week-long road trip through the Dalmatia – Makarska Riviera, Dubrovnik, and Split.
The long trip has caused us to make a stop at Maribor – captivating city located in the northeastern part of Slovenia. After well deserved rest we had a walk to explore Maribor’s Old Town, characterized by medieval architecture, cobbled streets, and charming squares with the Main Square. With that our main destination was even closer to get!

When arrived to the Makarska Riviera, we could admire stunning beaches, surrounded by dramatic mountains. Our stay there was a perfect time to have some sun-kissed and relax. We have spent days there sunbathing and snorkeling, especially at one – widely regarded as one of the most beautiful beaches on the Adriatic coast – Punta Rata. With the crystal-clear water and the view of the Biokovo Mountains the beach offers a postcard-perfect setting. One of the most iconic features of Punta Rata is the Brela Rock, a large rock formation that juts out into the sea. This natural landmark is a favorite spot for photographs and is often associated with the beauty of the Makarska Riviera.

In the search for more adventures, we decided to hit the road to Manojlovački slapovi also known as the Manojlovac Waterfalls. Located in the heart of the country the series of waterfalls in the Krka National Park in Croatia. We have not taken a chance, as the sun was operating all day, but there are also some hiking spots as well. Croatia offers many more than just the beaches and historic towns, just look for the spots that suits you best.
Hitting back on the road we decided to visit Dubrovnik. The road was incredible demanding for the driver, but filled with insanely beautiful views on the azure waters of the Adriatic Sea and charming small towns along the way. There were also plenty of the spots to stop and taste traditional Croatian delicacies and visit the local vineyards.

With that we were ready for walking and admiring the ancient city walls of Dubrovnik – we were treated to breathtaking panoramas of red-roofed houses surrounded by the sea. At this time it was all about “Game of Thrones” phenomenon, so finding spots from the series was an additional attraction there but also help to appreciate the historical and architectural beauty of Dubrovnik, which is often referred to as the “Pearl of the Adriatic.”

Another destination on our list was Split. As we walked through the ancient portal of Diocletian’s Palace, we couldn’t help but feel like time travelers, stepping back into a past era. The streets of the Split’s Old Town was crowded with tourists and shops were hidden in alleys where locals were selling local crafts. At the end we had a walk along the Riva Promenade. This waterfront promenade is a favorite spot for locals and visitors to relax and enjoy the sea breeze.

As the sun set on our last day in Croatia, we had the toast for the unforgettable journey filled with sunbathing and new adventures that allowed us to admire the beauty of Croatia’s coastal. On our way home we made one more stop at the most elegant European city – Vienna, but this is for sure the whole separate story to be told.
