INNSBRUCK

One point from the wish list was marked completed after we headed to Austria for our two weeks trip in May 2022. Our stay in TIROL turned out to be the perfect location to explore Alpine landscapes and visit the most stunning city we have ever seen – INNSBRUCK. All of that in the surroundings of the breathtaking ALPS.

Mühlbachl was our base to explore Tyrol as located in the heart of the Austrian Alps. This picturesque village has surprised us with the scenery and authentic Austrian architecture. From our location we were able to admire the Alps and Brenner Pass – historic mountain pass connecting Austria and Italy. Although the beginning of the May is considered there as off season period and indeed not all days was sunny, it was a perfect time for sightseeing and to admire views from the road, like the one below.

Not wasting much time, we headed to the capital of this region – Innsbruck. The city where history, culture, and breathtaking alpine surroundings can be found in one place. Innsbruck is located within the Inn Valley and it is surrounded by the peaks of the Nordkette mountain range, which offers one and only urban experience against a stunning natural backdrop. The Nordkette cable car whisks visitors from the city center to the mountaintop, providing panoramic views of Innsbruck and the surrounding Alps. Innsbruck is also well-known for its winter sports facilities and has hosted the Winter Olympics twice (in 1964 and 1976), still many sports objects can be spotted there.

The historic Old Town of Innsbruck, with its well-preserved medieval architecture, showcases landmarks such as the iconic Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl) and the Imperial Palace (Hofburg). The city’s heart beats along Maria-Theresien Street, a lively promenade filled with with shops and cafes, where you can try a traditional Austrian sweet snack – strudel.  It is a sweet pastry filled with fruits (such as apples or cherries), nuts, sugar, and spices, all wrapped in thin layers of dough.

The most characteristic photographic spot “Colorful Houses in Innsbruck” – refers to the row of picturesque houses along Mariahilf Street in the Old Town of Innsbruck. These charming houses are known for their colorful facades, each painted in various pastel shades, creating a stunning impression against the backdrop of the mighty mountains and clear mountain river.

Breathtaking views of the Alps made this place the perfect place to relax. Of course, during our stay, we did not spare the opportunity to visit our beloved Italy and other countries nearby, full of alpine landscapes, but this is certainly a story for a completely different post.
