ZURICH
Nestled within the heart of Switzerland, ZURICH was on our list for the long time. Besides being the financial hub of Switzerland, this charming city is also worth to visit for its picturesque Old Town, where medieval buildings stand beside modern boutiques. This exact impression Zurich made on us, during our one day stay there in May 2022.

The road trip from Innsbruck to Zurich we made was full of scenic landscapes of the Austrian and Swiss Alps. The journey was full of panoramic views of majestic peaks, crystal-clear lakes, and charming villages nestled in verdant valleys. Each stretch of road was postcard-worthy scene! It’s a road trip that is worth to take, where every mile is a celebration of the nature and the incredible infrastructure made in order to comfortably move between those two iconic cites make it even better experience.

Arriving to the city with such a long history of serving as the financial district for the world, made it common to witness people in suits taking a break from work. During the business hours professionals were stepping out of their offices to enjoy a break on fresh air and have some lunch. In Zurich there was plenty of places to have some rest in the shadows of trees.

There was no time to waste so we headed to Zurich’s Old Town (Altstadt). Among narrow streets and medieval buildings, we can discover boutiques, cafes, and contemporary art galleries, offering a glimpse into Zurich’s cosmopolitan style of life. While being there it is worth to take steps to the Lindenhof, an urban retreat nestled in the heart of Zurich. This mini park is also a hidden view point and offers panoramic views of the Old Town’s rooftops.

What we have found surprising, in Zurich, it is common to find people soaking up the sun while lounging on chairs in public spaces like cozy squares within the Old Town. The city embraces outdoor living, and we have seen locals enjoying a leisurely break, reading a book, or simply basking in the sunlight on various public seating areas.

The city is located along the Limmat River, but this is not the only place to have some rest. With the serene beauty of Lake Zurich and the majestic Alps as a backdrop, it was worth to took a stroll along Lake Zurich promenade. In the middle of the city we had a chance to admire people taking boat ride on the lake, swimming or just enjoying the scenic views and fresh air.
And that was the perfect closure of the one day journey to Zurich indeed!
